I am reworking a 73' Daysailer II and have looked all over the internet for a supplier for the vinyl rub rail. Wonder if there is a factory replacement anywhere? Ideas would be welcome. Measures 1" on the outside of the U shaped vinyl rail and is white.

D&R marine will have what you need. Find your boat on the website and they will have the rub rail you are looking for.

I wouldn't go with the vinyl again. The stuff breaks too easy. I would go with the Aluminum and rubber insert for the gunwale strip. I know that Rudy has the metal rub rail in stock right now. He showed it to me a couple of weeks ago when I stopped at his shop to pick up something that he had ordered for me.

Are you sure this is a DS II and not a DS I? The rubrail that you describe sounds more like what was on the DS I (and most of the smaller O'DAYs from the 1960's) The Hull/Deck joint on the DS II sort-of formed the rubrail and what you describe (and maybe I'm just not seeing it right?) does not seem like it would fit the gunwale. It may be that your rubrail was added by a previous owner? I'd give Rudy Nickerson at D&R Marine (508) 644-3001 a call, he sells rubrail that will definitely fit the DS II (I may eventually add this to my DS II). He has the type rubrail that I think you are describing as well. My old 1969 Widgeon had a rubrail that matched your description, it was a rubber or vinyl molding that fit over a T-shape (actually "Pi" shape) plastic molding that was fastened to the hull-deck joint. Hamilton Marine in Maine (they have a website) also carries this type of rubrail.

Thanks for the help. Talked to Rudy and will replace with the original style vinyl. Also got some tips on stretching and heating the rail to bend the corners. Found also the hare plastic rail underneath was cracked and shredded in places so will also replace that. D & R sure seems helpful and knowledgeable.
