I am replacing the port light in the head. I have ordered a gray port light that fits the opening and the installation appears to be fairly simple. So does anybody know of impending problems or have any helpful tips/suggestions for this project?
The old light should not have broken but the fastening knobs began to fall off for no apparent reason. I ordered th new light from sailboatowners and the service was fairly good.

Thank you,

Earl: I think you may find that the newer ports have repositioned the drains. You may need to fill the old drain cut-out with epoxy or resin. Then you can cut out a new drain with a dremmel tool or something similar.

Do you plan on screwing the new trim rings or screwing them into place?

Also you need to check for any rot in the core material. This will need to be addressed if this is a problem too.

Thank you Steve,

I am not sure how to answer your question. I have not looked closely enough at the project. When we get the old port light out more will be revealed. I never anticipated the rot, very good point to inspect.
