Charley damaged (among other things) the railing around the cockpit of my catalina 25 (1985). This railing appears to be one piece all around the stern. Its bent on the starboard side just aft the life line. im wondering if it could be fixed and if so how would you you sailor's go about it? If replaced, any idea on where to purchase & costs? Thanks Dr.Thagg

New Rail

Sorry to hear about the damage to your boat. The OEM of the rails used by many if not all Catalina's was "Railmakers". I have sent alomg the link to their website. I contacted them a few months back as I accidently bent my stern rail while securing my dinghy to the davits. They responded promptly, and the cost of replacement seemed reasonable, however the freight was almost as much as the rail itself. They did suggest how I might be able to repair the existing rail. Give them as call, and explain what has happened and see if they can help. I found found virtually all of the manufacturers that Catalina uses to be extremly helpful, and often times "bend over backwards" to make a situation right. Good luck.

Check A Metal Fabricator

Depending on bad the damage (bend) is, if you can remove it and transport it successfully (back of a pick up perhaps), to a metal fabricator they should be able to heat, rebend and even chrome dip it. Their must be a number of places on the coast that can repair it for you. I suggest contacting a repair yard and inquiring about local metal smith's who do such repairs. Good luck Bob
