A few questions for anyone who replaced the Grunert system themselves:
Are the connections on the lines between the compressor and the cold plate self-sealing, or will there be fluid running out that needs to be dealt with?
Am I correct in assuming that you also replaced the cold plates?
Did removing the Grunert system cold plates damage the interior surface of the refrigerator or freezer necessitating repair?
In my Grunert unit, the cold plate in the refrigerator was/is attached to the underside of the shelf and is a rather unique triangular shape with a couple of corners cut off square. My vendor indicated that it would be cost-prohibitive to custom fabricate a cold plate in the shape of the shelf and I will therefore have to settle for a standard rectangular plate which will need to be attached to the back (outboard) wall of the refrigerator. Were you able to modify and reuse the shelf in the refrigerator?
Any insights from those of you who have done it, would be greatly appreciated.
