Replace Fuel Lift Pump on 3GM30F

I plan to replace the fuel lift pump on a Yanmar 3GM30F powering a 1995 Hunter 336.

I wondered if this job is within reach an engine maintenance novice.

Any particular tips or watch-outs?

When mine went out on my 2gm the mechanic replaced it with an electric fuel pump he located close to the fuel tank and wired to the ignition switch. When you turn the switch the pump starts. Makes priming really easy. The electric pump just pushes fuel past the diaphragm in the pump. Some people buy a cheap $20.00 pump from napa but my mechanic insisted on a more expensive and dependable pump. Was about $200.00.

Two bolts hold the pump to the motor. A gasket seals the oil inside the motor. Quite simple.

See to it the old gasket is scraped off so the motor side surface it flat. A single edged razor works well. Avoid the old gasket debris falling into the opening.

It's a pretty simple project if you have decent access to the fuel pump bolts. You can do it!
