Replace cam cleats on Garhauer traveler

Need to replace some cam cleats on my 1988 Catalina 30 MKII (hull 5075 picture below). The cam cleats on either end of my mainsheet traveler have "frozen" in place and either don't swivel at all, or just barely. I called Garhauer, spoke with a man who said he was very familiar with the Garhauer traveler (in fact, a lady there told me he'd made all of 'em). He was great, sent me some replacements which he explained were different but should fit .... and they don't. The replacement cam cleats are Ronstan with 1-1/5 inch centers. The original Garhauer cams have 2-1/16 inch centers. I could just drill new holes in the plates and mount the Ronstan cams, but wanted to ask about a source for cam cleats that would just bolt on without modification. Any suggestions? Regards, Gary

Here's What I Did

I had the exact problem on my 1987 C-30. I talked to a guy by the name of Guido at Garhauer. I sent him pictures of my cams with the 2-1/16" dimension you indicated. They don't make that particular cam anymore, but he sent me two replacement cams that weren't exactly the same dimension, but were only slightly smaller. Not sure about your 1-1/5 dimension? I used one of the existing holes and simply drilled one other hole in the plate. The new cam covers the old hole and they work great for me. Since I couldn't find any replacement cams with the 2-1/16" dimension, seemed like the only sensible solution to me.

Thank you

Thanks. I think Guido was who I spoke with. I'll probably do as you did and re-drill the plate since you've had no trouble doing so. Regards, Gary
