Any thoughts on an easy way to replace the forward bow cleats on my Cat 22? One is loose and needs either replacement or adjustment but reaching it is a real pain. Have to reach through tiny round port forward in anchor locker. Any ideas? Thanks.

Does it look like this?

Take off the cover by lifting it up and out. Then lay on your back and reach up to tighten the nuts. You can also unscrew the frame and remove it if you need more room in there.

If he has an anchor locker, his boat won't look like that, it would be a post-'85.

I THINK the port in the anchor locker is the only way to access the cleat nuts, and yes it looks like a royal pain. I've rebedded my stem fitting reaching through it, and even that wasn't particularly fun.

(By the way, the silicone in this pic is NOT my handiwork!)

Yeah, that would be a pain. Some places on these boats, I think CY employed Oompa Loompas to build.

You could always install a small screw in inspection port on a flat portion of the interior anchor locker. Catalina, (as most boat builders do), installs the deck hardware before the deck is mated to the hull assembly. Would be a good time to remove and properly re-bed the cleats to prevent more serious problems down the road.
