I need to replace the starboard side bulkhead - what width of plywood do I need? -

Standard Sheet

Kevin, The standard size of a sheet of ply-wood is 4x8. If you lay them out corectly, you should be able to get both port and starboard bulkheads out of one sheet. Be sure to keep the old ones intack when you remove them to use as a pattern for the new ones. PM

Thickness -

*sry Thanks for the reply - I am confused aboutn the thicknes - I did say width in my original post - I have looked in the archives and found that others have used 1/2 inch thick plywood = I have been looking at the plywood - and thinking - this can't be a 1/2 inch thick - just wanted to get the OK from others that yes - it really is - maybe I do need to use a tooth pick to measure - I would appreciate knowing if others have replace a '78 O'Day 25 bulkhead and - yes - it really is a 1/2 inch thick - or - what the thickness really is - thanks

I'll try to remember to measure mine the next time I'm out, but I'd say that 1/2" is probably right. Keep in mind, these are supports for the deck, as well as the chainplates. I would not want to go any less than 1/2".

I just replaced the bulkheads

and only got one bulkhead out of a 4x8 sheet--the port bulkhead pretty much takes up the entire width of the sheet. You might be able to do it with a ten foot sheet, but not with an 8 footer. It is 1/2 inch--at least that is what I used on my '78. Make up a cardboard template--or shape some strips of cardboard with some heavy sandpaper and then staple them to your existing bulkhead before you remove them so that you have a template.Note, the channels at the top have rounded edges, and the lip at the bottom and the forward part of the setee are also rounded, so you will probably have to grind down those edges to get them to fit.
