Repairing cabin hatch slide?

Last year my wife and I bought our first boat, a Catalina 250. Welove it, and it is just the right size for us in Colorado.Over the summer a problem developed between the cabin and the hatch. The hatch cover slides toward the bow to open. It slides on a thickvinyl (I guess) tape to protect the cabin's fiberglass. The tape hasdeteriorated and separated from the fiberglass, and I need to replaceit.Can any one suggest where I might go to get the replacement tape? Ihave tried West Marine and other Internet boat supplies sites with nosuccess.

Hatch slide Repair

Try the hardware store. My hatch cover was becoming difficult to slide. I found in the plumbing section a white plastic tape, about 1/8" thick and about 1" wide with adhesive back. It is made to be used as a trim seal on, for example, a back splash in place of caulk, but is serves well as a cabin top slide. The adhesive back looks like plumbers putty, so it seals well. The tape is smooth, so the hatch slides well. Just open the hatch completely, cut the tape to fit, peel off the paper from the adhesive, and lay it in. It was under $5, and has worked well for two seasons thus far.

japanese glide tape

APS (anapolis performance sailing) or west marine sells it. it is a teflon tape made to reduce play in the centerboard slot of small dingies. i put it on mine a year ago and it still looks perfect. be careful the first time you slide the hatch open.....this is the most slippery stuff i have ever seen.
