I recently began repairing the broken SS screws in my Catalina 350. We got saltwater on the sole a few years ago due to a "drip less shaft seal". After some time, some of the screws looked corroded. The heads started to pop off with no way to reach the screw. When I tried to remove other screws. Several more broke off below the surface.

The solution I found is a hollow wood screw extractor

Using a drill in reverse, you bore out the wood and screw to 1/4" then plug with a glued in 1/4" dowel, then re-drill and install the new screws. Careful, hollow extractor can fracture if you aren't careful.

Thanks for the tip. Ditto on the nice repair.
BTW the link to Woodcraft is broken. Hopefully this one will work.

I really like their website. They have over 1000 instructional videos on YouTube.

I was impressed with the Grabit commercial so I bought a set a while back and it looks like a quality product. It will also work on broken screws, though in your case probably not.

That's open ended fear mongering. If you aren't comfortable with a product, vote with your wallet.
