Repairing a bad topside paint job

So I just bought an old O'day 22, 1978 to be exact. The boat is in good shape overall but the previous owner did a not so good (more like terrible) job painting the topsides. I am wondering if anyone can give me some advice on refinishing. This is my first boat, hence I don't know much about marine paint, working with fiberglass etc. I am looking forward to learning.
Thanks

Can you post pictures.... I've actually done a tremendous amount of work on a Mac 22. I loved that boat.

The first pic is the previous owner on the day I bought the boat.
The second is after I stripped, gutted and rebuilt. :)

Great. Pics will help a lot. The answer to your question has a lot to do with what type of "paint" was used.

Thanks Dave

You should see the H26 now. I buffed & waxed the hull, cleaned & polished the lexan, put new bottom paint on her. She looks sharp. I fixed the broken parts of the rudder assembly, did a little electric work... put in a new portapottie. Heading to Oriental next week, sailing to Ocracoke with the kids. This will be my fourth trip out of Oriental. Love that part of the country.
