I have trailer repair problems. My Hunter (26 water ballast) trailer has been sitting out in the New Mexico sun for 5 years, and can you ever tell! The two-axle trailer has two plywood side boards and a plywood keel board. All three have badly warped over the years, and will have to be replaced. Also the rubber brake cables are badly cracked. I must replace both the boards and the brake cables. WHERE CAN I GET THESE PARTS, or do I have to make the whole damned thing from scratch?

Trailer Repair

I just had a trailer rebuilt for my Hunter 26. I think just about any competent trailer place could do the work for a reasonable price. Mine was done by the local Magic-Tilt dealer.

Robert, Replacing the bunks is not a major task.

You have the originals for patterns. Be sure to maintain the current heigth of the bunks if they are adjustable. On my 95 Hunter trailer they are non-adjustable so no problem. Cut the new wood, carpet and bolt-on. The brake line can be repaired by any brake shop and is a very basic repair. DO have the wheel bearings inspected and the brake shoes checked at the same time. Both are probably bad and if these fail it is a big item! To replace all the bearings and replace brakes shoes if worn will probably be in the $300 range alone. Ray S/V Speedy
