Repair or replace Atlantes A5 toilet?

The unit is 6-10 years old and suddenly stopped flushing as if not receiving power. It has raw water intake and we are in fresh water. I checked the power to the unit and it is fine, and the fuses underneath it are good. I think the problem must be the switch (no remote) or the circuit board. The Atlantes was always very noisy and used a lot of water, but otherwise worked well and the family much prefers electric over the Jabsco manual in the other head.

If repair is even practical, is the Marine Elegance toilet enough improved to go ahead and replace instead of repair? Is this the unit you recommend:

Thanks as always!

David: let me suggest you repost this in the Expert's Forum "The Head Mistress" who will no doubt give some very sage advice.

David: I would contact the mfg. They may be able to diagnosis the problem for you and give you an idea of any repair costs.

It's ok...I have it...

I definitely would NOT dump this toilet...it's a top of the line all china throne. What you need to do is call Vic Willman at Raritan...he's their tech services mgr, has been there more than 35 years and has forgotten more than I will ever learn about everything they've ever made. He CAN solve your problems!

However, IMO replacing the Jabsco manual with the Raritan Elegance is a great idea! The price at the retailer for whom you posted the link cannot possibly be right...but if you can buy it from 'em for that price, JUMP on it! 'Cuz even WITH the extra $200 for the "smart flush" option, that's still at least $150 lower than any price I've seen elsewhere.

The Marine "Elegance" is an excellent head, but the one shown on your ad is the cheapest bare-bones unit that is offered; it does not include the Smart Switch control system. It is a simple push button operation - push the button, it runs; let go, it stops. It is advisable to upgrade to the Smart Switch control, as it is programmable, and gives you a lot more flexibility. The smart Switch control also gives you the water-saver feature, which is not available with the push button switch. Also note that the "Elegance" shown in the ad operates on pressurized fresh water only, from your onboard pressure water system; it can't be used with raw water from outside the boat. If you want the toilet to flush with raw water, that isn't the one you want. You'll have to change the selection blocks on the ad, to bring up the correct unit for your particular application.

Peggie's right, the Atlantes is Raritan's top of the line all-ceramic toilet, and it certainly isn't a throwaway item. An Atlantes A5 series is almost never in a condition where it isn't repairable. If it simply won't run, I'd remove the two auto-reset circuit breakers from the very bottom (center) of the head (you'll have to lay the head over on its side to access them) and replace them with old-style automotive glass fuses of the same values. When those circuit breakers get a little age on them, even though they check good with an ohmmeter, soon's you put any current through them, they tend to open - and the head won't run - you won't even get a grunt out of it! Drives you crazy, trying to figure out what's wrong. Oftentimes for a dollar and a half, and a little work on your part, you can solve the problem. Be sure not to mix them up - draw yourself a little sketch of which one is which, before removing them. If that doesn't solve the problem, contact the factory and one of the service guys on the phone (you'll probably get me) will help you to troubleshoot the head. A replacement circuit board for an A5 retails for $225.00, but the whole replacement toilet retails for around $1400.00, so in my opinion, you'd be better advised to try and repair it.

Thanks, I'll try the auto fuse solution. If that does not work, is it possible to replace or bypass the circuit board with a remote wall switch such as the Smart Switch control system?
