Repair needed around center board on 15FT Oday

Hi, I'm new to this forum and to sailing. I'm looking forward to learning about sailing and working on this '81 15 Oday. I'm hoping this will be a good trainer boat for my GF and I and, maybe move up to a little larger sailboat with a small cabin.

I need to repair the material around the top of the section where the center board drops in. From what I've read the hull in fiberglass but I don't know the material of the section needing the repair.
Can someone tell me if it's fiberglass or a plastic material?

Welcome Dan, If you post a picture of the area, I'm sure you will get more responses. If you have a damaged area that you can scrape on, you should be able to tell fiberglass from plastic. Many plastics can be repaired like FG.

I believe the whole area is fiberglass, but to be sure, A quick call to Rudy Nickerson at D&R Marine in Assonet, MA (508) 644-3001 should get you an answer. Rudy used to be the Parts Dept. Manager at O'DAY from 1973-89 and now runs a little shop making replacement parts for our boats. I have attached a pic of the area on another 1981 O'Day 15 for reference.

LeeandRick, I'm just waiting for a decent day so I can take some pictures.
It will also give me a chance to set it up in the yard with no sails just to see if it is all there.
I pick it up from a neighbor who is going to help me get it into the water this spring.
But, being new to me I can't wait to see if it needs anything. I do know it has seen better days.
