Repair cabinet surfaces in h40 heads

I have an h40 Legend ’87. The surface of the cabinet-work in the rear head is done in white. Some of the surface has peeled and chipped in response to much moisture. Does any one know how to repair, resurface, and/or repaint? Did hunter paint or is this a laminate? If painting is suggested, what type of paint? Thanks

Same problem. Replacing with Formica

I have the same problem and based on the discussion in the forums it seems everyone experiences the problem over time. I jsut came from Home Depot and they are going to make me a new top with a nice WILSONART composite top to replace the old one. I don't know what material HUNTER used but whoever came up with the idea should be given early retirement. It is JUNK. The same thing is happening in the head/shower.

Junk?

Hey Ron:Junk? <g> These boats are 15+ years old. Some of these "less than quality" type item are giving up. But considering how long they made it, they are not too bad. Overall I really think that the interior of these boats have held up extremely well considering their price point at the orginal time of delivery. We still have the original fabric on our cushions. We have replaced the foam in the vberth. We are ready for a new interior in the next year or so. I am also considering doing the same thing, having a new counter top made for the head. Did you just take the old one in so they could use the old one for a pattern?

I agree with you that for the most part the interiors hold up very well. But I have never seen any true laminate such as Formica or Wilsonart that peels the way the white stuff does. I have not seen a Melamine do this either. This stuff is like a paint that had vinyl added to it or something like that. It certainly was not state of the art in the 80's but rather state of the cheap way to do it.
