repainting Hunter 23.5 rudder

My Hunter 23.5 has a wood rudder that I have sanded to remove stains. I need advice as to how to prep for paint and what paint to use. I would like to be able to do this with one paint product if possible but am looking for instructions on proper maintenance.

Since it's a wood rudder, I would think that you would want to coat it with at least one and probably two coats of West System Epoxy, possibly with a little filler added - check with West System. Sand between coats and before painting. Then paint one or two coats of your usual bottom paint.

make sure the rudder is completely dry. Never had a wooden rudder when the boats were first sold.
