Rent/borrow a trailer

I was lucky to win an eBay auction which makes me the proud owner of s 1973 oday 22 in the san Francisco bay area. I am not an experienced keel boat sailer. My last boat was a hobie 18. I want to transport the boat from treasure island to rio vista. In would sail her, but I lack the experience and I have no idea how sea worthy she is. I would like to find an owner in the area who will rent/lend me their trailer so I can transport her.

Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

You could have it transported by a boat hauler Andrew. You would need to phone them and get some prices.

hello, im new here but i thought we were here to help each other someone probably has a trailer they could lend you...you regular insurance would cover the trailer incase of an accident and you might make a new friend. also there are boat movers ive found them to be expensive.

With all due respects, I doubt very much if someone would lend anyone his trailer unless he was a close friend or a relative of that person.
Let me explain this so that you can have a full understanding of what is involved in setting up a trailer. The bunks would need to be adjusted for his boat and also the tongue weight which involves moving the position of the winch stanchion. As much as I care about helping people who are in need, would I be willing to lend my trailer to someone I don't know? I think not. Would I be willing to do it for money? Absolutely not, because it's too much like work. If my own son needed a trailer, I'd rather go out and buy him a trailer than mess up the adjustments that I made on my trailer, which fits my boat perfectly.

If you plan on buying a trailer for this boat eventually, you may as well buy it now. If not, then maybe you could find someone who is willing to sail it to Frisco or find a boat hauler who is reasonable.
If you plan on buying a used trailer, you should find a large boat trailer dealer and inquire about a new trailer for your boat You don't have to buy it off him. What you will be in need of is info, like the trailer length, and the weight carring capacity of the trailer. He has the specs for the O'Day 22 right in his PC and he can give you the info you need such as the boat's weight with all the gear aboard and the lenght of the trailer needed in order to float the boat on and off at the boat ramp.
Then you have two options. You can buy new, or you can search for a used trailer with the weight and length recommendations that the dealer gave you.

I do agree with you. I thought that is someone had the exact trailer I need, it would be great, but I have called a couple of haulers and I am waiting ti hear. The thing about buying a trailer is that I don't want to drop another 2k on a trailer

This is the thing. If you aren't planning on owning a trailer, you're better off either having someone haul it for you, or you could find out if the boat could be put on a cradle and lifted on to a flatbed trailer that you could rent with a towing vehicle. I don't think there are any easy ways out of it. The O'Day 22 has a stubby keel that hangs down about 12". That means that the bunks need to be set high to accommodate the hull. If it was a centerboard day sailer, you could get away with almost any borrowed or rented powerboat trailer with rollers or flat bunks that could handle the weight of the boat.
I talked to a guy via email a few years back who bought an O'Day 22 in Nebraska I think it was, and had it shipped to his home in CT.
