I have a 2005 Hunter with a fabric headliner that is showing it old age. As opposed to replacing it is there a coating that can be applied that will adhere to the material and improve its appearance and still retain some flexibility. I do not want to use a spray headliner used in autos, but something that could be brushed or rolled on

How about rubber cement? You can brush it on.

I would probably vote for the spray, but if you don’t want to use that…

I'm in the middle of redoing the fabric wall lining on my boat. We started out using the 3M stuff, ran out and then based on coverage of the 3M 77/90, bought a dozen cans of V&S 1081 Spray adhesive. It turns out that this stuff has MUCH better coverage and does a fine job. The spray pattern on the 3M is slightly better but I'd still buy the V&S over the 3M.

Auto spray headliner dye is designed for exactly what you want to do but if you don't want to use that, try searching for vinyl dye in a can.
