Hey crazy Dave and other crazies, is there any interest in organizing a rendezvous for trailerable Hunter or other sailboats in North Carolina this spring? Other locations? I was very disappointed that last years gathering at Kerr Lake did not work out. I am ready to do something this year! After all thats why we have trailerable boats to explore new waters!

I'm ready

As in last year on Kerr Lake, I'm ready, willing and able to get together. I'm in the planning stages of going to the MUG race on the ST. Johns River in Jacksonville Fl. in May, but other than that any time is good. Have sail will travel. LOL John Baums Rush

N.C. Rendevous

I am open to Lake Norman in April, weekend of 3 and 4. Have obligations at church on 10 and 11, could do 17 and 18. Wife goes in for double knee replacement on 21 and we most likely won't be back on the water until late summer. Butch might be able to provide some support from select and/or some of the folks from Outrigger, Lake Norman, or the Penninsula Yacht Clubs might assist. Crazy would know. These folks also put together a "Pursuit Regatta" on the first weekend of May open to all applicants. Boats participate in spin and non spin classes with start times based on phrf. Proceeds go to the Chuck Strange Foundation, which helps phsycally challenged sailors enjoy sailing. The 2003 event included 46 boats. Steve Kamp, H 260 "Carolina Girl"

Beaufort/Cape Lookout

I would like to suggest Beaufort/Cape Lookout the last weekend in April. There is a great music festival in Beaufort Friday through Sunday, and Cape Lookout is a legendary anchorage. Last year the loggerhead turtles were there in mass. Michael Carter H26 "Full Tilt"

Last year I proposed this on Kerr Lake. I only had 6 takers and with the time spent arranging things, I was dissapointed with the turnout. However, the lake flooded so much, it would have had to be called off anyway. It is my dream for this to happen but you guys have to make it happen. I will do anything to help you but I did spend alot of time getting the go ahead and so forth last time.

I'd like to do it!

I think it would be pretty easy to set up at Kerr Lake or at Cape Lookout. I like Cape Lookout best but finding a lot of trailer parking there could be very hard to if more than 10 boats want to meet I'd recommend Kerr Lake. Kerr has parking space and ramps for many many dozens of boats and a great lake and marina. I'm thinking about the first weekend in May as a potential cruising date for us. Let me know on NCsail.org if you want to meet us somewhere.

Oh Yeah

we would love it too. Kerr is good since we are already there.;D Haven't done the Cape Lookout trip, but that is #1 on our list of places to go. With the baby due in early March, April may be tough, but I am sure we can work it out.

Sounds Great!

Beth and I just bought our Hunter 23 2 months ago and would like to go out with experienced sailors. Sounds like a great opportunity.

How about the weekend of May 1st?

Even if only six folks sign up I think we'll have a great time. I think if less than eight boats sign up we should go to Cape Lookout from Beaufort. If between eight and 15 boats sign up we should go to Carolina beach state park. If a lot of boats sign up or the weather at the coast looks iffy Kerr lake is the place to go. One Marina there has nice campgounds and parking for dozens of boats. So whose with me?

Great ideas

The Cape Lookout trip sounds great. Keep the thread alive. If April/May is a "Go", I would like to participate, even though I'm fixed keel, non-trailer.

Sounds good to me...

Although, in any case, I will be in Beaufort April 23-25 for the Beaufort Music Festival, and heading to Cape Lookout for a few days on April 25 (Sunday). My home port is at Carolina Beach Inlet, not far from Carolina Beach State Park, so that trip works for me as well. Mike

I'm in too!

Anywhere ICW sounds great as this is a goal of ours when we purchased our 260 late last year. And being a novice, going w/ a group makes the best sense. However, at home in Kerr Lake would give us the opportunity to be good hosts for the group too. Could go either way...

e-mail address

My e-mail is carterm@mindspring.com. We met a H23 on the Cape Fear River a couple of months ago - we were headed North towards Wilmington, and the H23 was headed South towards Snow's Cut. We passed close and said hello. Was that you guys by any chance? I don't remember the date at this point. My boat is an H26. Please do send an e-mail. Mike & Betsy
