My good old engine, does not like to start without a shot (very small) of starting fluid. OK when warm. Valve adjustment OK. Has good compression when checking by hand. Anything I'm doing or not doing. Dosen't have a lot of hours and has had the problem since about 1986 but has never not run when needed.

The Renault Choke

Hi Jack, It's me again. In regard to the cold-start of the Renault, there is a pin on the side of the engine to pull when it is cold, i.e., below 70 degrees. That gives it a bit richer mixture of fuel for a cold start; the pin automatically reseats itself. That may solve your problem. It certainly works on my Renault and mine is 20 years old and has never been touched except for general maintenance. Joe

Thanks Joe

I do know about the choke on the Renault. That dosen't seem to do the trick either. Sure wish someone would come up with a good idea that didn't involve a rebuild.
