Help, I was taking our 1980 Hunter 27 with a Renault RC8 from its winter berth on the Bohemia River to its summer slip in Rock Hall when I suffered a fuel pump failure off the Sassafras. Renault is closed 'til tuesday and I'm not feeling any confidence in them providing my part for a fair price or at all. I was able to bypass the fuel pump with a feed direct from the tank to the secondary filter and sail then motor into a protected anchorage on the Whorton Creek thanks to gravity feed. I was easy on the throttle for caution's sake. Two questions for the field: 1. Do you think the gravity feed will permit me to limp the rest of the way to Rock Hall with no prime wind? 2. Can I make do with a 3rd party 12volt fuel pump of 4 psi? The Renault manual calls for 135 KG/cm2 for the injector pressure and I have not come up with a conversion tool for something other than PSI to Kilopascals (what's a kilopascal)... The manual calls this a priming pump, and if so I shouldn't loose prime with a full tank and 1-2 foot seas. Help if you can... I gotta get the boat home! What a weekend. I'm so glad I had tools and some spares on board! Bob

pump

I belive would make it fine as long as you have a tank full of fuel but I would get a 12 volt pump and hook it and you will not have a problems for shure then. By the way I do work on diesal

Update for Renault

I spoke to a gentleman in TX at 281-339-1465, he does not stock the fuel pump, however he recommended the solution of an electric pump. He indicated that it would be a fraction of the cost and would do the job nicely. I'm going to go with an EP-10, a little 12 volt in line pump with a 4-5.5 PSI rating. Some interesting tidbits that I was able to pick up while working out this problem that may or may not be accurate... Renault Marine Diesel stopped production in 1982. Thier inventories were purchased by Nanni Diesel in France which whose founders include some folks from Renault Marine Diesel. The Parts repository in Texas that we've come to know was sold last year, but has recently undergone some changes and may be back in the hands of the original owner now. He informed me that they's just finished litigation and that things are a mess. He then went on to say please call back next week and he will be able to help. He has fuel filters, but no lift pump, though he may have injector pumps, I don't need one and didn't ask. On a side bar, is this fuel filter available elsewhere? Thanks all! Bob

Fuel Line Pressure

4 PSI = .281 KG/cm2... Looks like another typo in the Renault manual. The manual said 135 KG/cm2 was the injector pressure, must be .135 A pressure of 135 would be a couple hundred psi... oops..

Post part numbers!

Please, everyone--if you know alternate parts number for Renault, please post them! Don't ask one person to email you--write again with the number. We all need this information, esp. with the chaos in TX. PS--I posted parts numbers earlier, and will post injector (Bosch) and impellor parts when I get to the boat.
