Has anyone tried to replace the cooling pump on the Renault Diesel. It would seem that a replacement pump could be fitted. I've contacted Oberdorfer pumps in Syracuse, NY to see if they can be of assistance. Someone got a price of $600 for a rebuild from the TX parts source before they went out of business.

Yes Please

Dosen't seem to be much intrest in Renault parts unless you have one. I do. I've asked Phil to start a page that would include everyones findings of subsitute parts but he dosn't seem intrested. He said that he had a source in FL and would provide Renault parts in the HOW store. No action there either. Oh well I'm trying to keep track of Renault parts myself and would appreciate your input if you fine a replacement pump thats not out of sight.

Renault Parts

Oberdorfer suggested I contact Depco Pump in FL. Depco would machine the old one or jury rig a new one that would fit but, they need the old one to go buy. Parts can be ordered from Mermaid Marine (Div. of Northeast Industries) in Gloucester, MA, phone number is 978-281-7876. This number was posted before on this site but the name of the company was not given. Depco pump is sending a spec. sheet on their pumps and perhaps one will fit. I'll let you know. Mermain orders from France so the parts cost some but not a heck of alot more than the old TX source. We need to get a list of replacement parts going from owners that have gone through these problems. Hopefully, others will respond. What do you do for the internal engine zincs? I need to install one per year. Ordered one today from Mermain but, a local supply would be nice. The problem is the ones from France are in metric.

Renault parts

Jack - since Phil is out of the office I will speak for him. It is not that we are not interested in carrying Renault parts - on the contrary. We are working to do just that, but it does take time. There is a lot of work involved in maintaining and developing this site so not everything can get turned on a dime. Thanks for your patience and we will hopefully have something online in later August.

Wayne Oastler-internal engine zincs

Where in the world do internal engine zincs go in the Renault engine. I can't find this in the parts manual and I guess if I need one I need it bad.

Internal Zincs

Jack, the internal zinc is shown on page 15 of the owner's manual in fig. 18. The part number is 094-619. They used to cost 8 bucks from TX. My boat was in fresh water for 18 years and it was never changed, however, it was badly corroded. For the last three years the boat has been in salt water and I need to replace it each year. The threads are in metric so finding a replacement is difficult. A friend suggested that the brass bolt be remachined on the inside to accept our system of threads. Then a replacement that is easy to find could be used. The zinc simply screws into the brass bolt with has a male exterior and a female interior. You should probably check yours especially if used in salt water. The bolt also serves as a drain plug for the cooling system.

Internal Zinks - Wayne Oastler

I do thank you for the great info. No zink in mine. Will check for threads on drain plug later today. I like your idea of converting the threads if any to somthing useable. My boat has only been in the salt water for the past year previous 20 on fresh water lake. What size is this zink, how long etc. Another item for the HOW store Phil. Again, Wayne thanks for the great info. I'll try to let you know how it works out.

Internal Zincs

Jack, I just checked an old zinc and it is 9/16 inch diameter and 13/16 in length. That is roughly since it is corroded and the actual measurement, I believe, is in metric. I couldn't unscrew the zinc from the brass bolt, so perhaps it won't come apart. I have put new ones in each year and they come with the zinc and bolt. I wonder how the new one I ordered will arrive from France via Mermaid Marine. I'll let you know.

Engine Zincs

Jack, I talked to someone who buys a zinc and then cuts it down to length. The zinc does screw in to the bolt (plug). I think you should be able to get one in metric to fit if you go to a marine diesel parts supplier. After all Volvo Penta and others are not made in the US. Anyway I will post a response when I get the parts from France.
