Just for fun I'm wondering how many have renamed their boats without alot of mumbo jumbo and the sacrifice of a bottle of bubbly to figures in ancient Greek mythology. What has been the reaction of fellow sailors? What were your thoughts prior? Have you hit any uncharted rocks? Does your boat still love you? Do you love it? Eric

Rename

Renamed my C-22 #2226 Old name "Tinkerbell" (Right!) New name "Windsocket" No fanfare. Spilled beer and soda and juice then sailed with 2 virgins (I think) and my wench. Still floats and stuff still breaks. Campster

Mumbo Jumbo

So far all we have done is take the boat's name off the transom. I read somewhere that you have to remove the old name and allow some time to pass so that the boat will forget it's name. You are also supposed to remove anything that has the old name from the boat. Some renaming ceremonies get pretty involved.

Fun

The old name was Moriah. The previous owner had a "life partner". California only recognizes the marriages... Anyway, the boat was the only female on those cruises. She got no action... I renamed her to Ana Michele. She loves me and I love her. One thing about the "other" lifestyle, she was properly "manicured." She gets all the play in the world, and sheds a tear as I leave the dock. In fact, in her own way she told me that she would love to have new standing rigging. Thank God I listened to her because as I was changing a turnbuckle it snapped in half. How lucky was I to listen.

the PO didn't dename the boat and had some really big problems, not only did i dename the second name but also the first name in 2 different ceremonies. Now she sails like the wind and all who sail on her feel safe at sea.Sounds like a load of crap but trust me, everything about the sea had stromg backing. now if i can get a girl with an exposed breast to sit on the bow i'll be really safe. Fair winds and happy sailing.

Renaming, et al..

For whatever it's worth, I owned my last boat for a total of seven weeks. I had picked out a new name and was just about to rename the boat. I was exploring all the myths about renaming and the associated ceremonies they "require." Then Hurricane Isabel came along and decided the issue for me. Boat was totaled....

Eric, Hi bro and fellow non believer.

Never renamed a boat, but wanted to say hi. HI. Al, you've just got to get to the Caribbean, they're standard equipment. Campy, where are you in Port Orchard? That's still our transom 'hailing port'. We'll change it to Seabeck when we get an extra buck and the Coast Guard catches up. (we're documented) That's a little close to a name change, does it count?

Renaming...

I just removed the name on the boat I purchased, ("Strange", not my favorite). I am cleaning, repairing, painting, replacing etc. As far as I'm concerned this boat will have a rebirth and deserves a new name. Reincarnation is inorder, damn the torpedoes!
