Renaming a boat with an unknown name

This is what I did.

You must erase the name from the ledger of the deep. If you don't know it, which I didn't, then wing it. It was a blast. I backed up to the beach house where we were staying, anchored the bow and stern and went to it. Toasted to the gods as described with champagne and a beach full of costumed and slightly medicated onlookers.

After the ceremony I tore off the taped on covers for the new decals and sailed off the beach into Cape Cad Bay. It was a BLAST!! Mind you it was the fourth of July and I just got back from the hospital. I kicked a top deck cleat and it got buried between my baby toe and the next to the baby toe. All the way to the hub. Nasty but it wasn't stopping the ceremony however.

Boating is about adventure and having fun. It is good to have Poseidon and Zephyrs on your side!!!! Worked for the Tsatzsue.

We also did not pour half the bottle out. I figured the Gods would have thought that wasteful!! At least the first bottle!!!

My wife and I purchased a Catalina 30 last spring. Late in the summer we went through the whole denaming & renaming/christening. We made it an event with friends and members of our sailing club. Renaming something without a name makes no sense. If it's nameless, you're simply giving it one..... like a christening....

My renaming ceremony consists of doing all repairs and maintenance followed by learning and practicing sailing and watercraft skills. This appeases the "gods" so much better.

I'm not against an excuse to enjoy a social gathering, but it does nothing if the maintenance and training is ignored...
