Removing wall of toilet room (head)?

Hi,
I'm planning to replace my motor mounts and it seems like that aft port one will be easier to get to if that wall wasn't in the way. Can anyone offer advice on removing it without damaging it?

Can’t offer any advice for your specific boat; however, I could not have replaced mine without a helper. Didn’t have to cut anything, but it took a couple of days to complete the task. Access was horrible. Good luck.

How about just cutting an access door in the wall? I cut one in the head of my O’Day 322 to make access to the starter, air cleaner, etc much easier.

By just cutting hole, you are not removing the structure of the bulkhead, but you can still get access.

Do not remove the entire bulkhead unless you are planning to replace it. Bulkheads are usually structural and removing will affect the structure of the boat. Think of the bulkhead as a load bearing wall in a house, if you remove a load bearing wall the structure is compromised.

If access is really that limited, that even with proper tools the engine mount can't be replaced, then @Tally Ho's suggestion of cutting a small access hole is appropriate. Make it as small as possible and close it up when the job is done. An opening will allow motor noise into the head and interior of the boat.

Hi I did this project last year - although I hired a professional to replace the mounts, I have taken the bulkhead off a couple times, no issues to do that...there's a post I did in 2017 when I cut a hole to do an approved Catalina modification to give space separation from the exhaust heat riser elbow.
I stayed and watched the mechanic do the entire job over several days. Those motor mounts are pricey - yes I got the Universal mounts from Catalina Direct.
It was suggested to cut and place an access panel to access the port side but it's not necessary. You will hoist up the motor anyway to replace the mounts. I also replaced the prop shaft, cutlass bearing, and stuffing box at the same time (again parts from Catalina Direct). Might as well do these major projects at the same time because you'll have to realign everything with new motor mounts; this is the part where having an experienced pro do the alignment makes a huge difference - way beyond my scope of ability.
I also replaced the heat riser elbow, all hoses, and the heat exchanger (I bought one years ago knowing parts were skyrocketing in price so just had it ready, in storage) - might as well as you'll never have better access as when the bulkhead is off, and the motor hoisted. I also rebuilt the water pump (replaced bearings etc. at home).

If you are flexible it is easy enough to replace that aft port mount by leaning over the engine with a ratchet or wrench, or by laying down and shimmying about to that side. One idea is to go with a different kind of motor mount like the one picture as the post threads in and is locked in with a bolt. I did need to pull the engine up a couple of inches to clear the old mount posts and use adapter plates as I did not want to drill new holes. To lift the engine I just laid a 4x4 over the cockpit opening and used a come-along and some chain to pull it up. Pretty easy. You would also need to pull the engine up if you are replacing the transmission. It sounds like a whole lot of work to remove that bulkhead and then if you use your shower the potential for leaks.

Recently replaced all motor mounts on my Yanmar. No need to jack up engine. Used a scissor jack to place tension above each mount, disconnected mount from stringer, & disconnected motor mount bracket From engine. Then slid mount & bracket together horizontally / laterally. Replaced one at a time using same technique so that motor did not have to be lifted above motor mount Studs. Don’t know if it is possible with Catalina / Universal configuration.
