Well this maybe a dumb question, but as a newbie sailboat owner I need help. I want to take the sails off to have them repaired, but I don't know exactly how they come off. I know how to get the main off the mast, but I don't know how it comes off the boom. I also have a Furlex jib furler and I am not sure how the jib comes down. I have a 1985 25.5. Thanks, Jeremy

REMOVING THE SAIL FROM THE BOOM

I have a 1984 hunter 25.5, so I imagine yours is the same. To remove the Main sail from the boom, first remove the on the mast end of the boom that is holding the mast you have to loosen the outhaul rope which is a 1/4" white rope that comes out from the mast end of the boom. it is normally tied toa cleat on the bottom of the boom about 15" from the mast. Then pull the metal cable attatched to the sail on outside end of the boom. Then take the shakle off. Now you will be able to slide the main sail off the boom by pulling it towards he mast. Good luck.
