removing teak

I'd like to remove the vertical teak strips that form the tracks for the main hatchway boards for restoring. Has anyone removed these? How do I do it? Or should I just refinish them on the boat? Trouble is it's cold here in winter and I want to bring them into my shop.thanks

I took mine off

Mike,If I remember correctly, there are screws on the inside of the cabin (under the carpet liner). They were bedded in a little adhisive, but they came right off. My boat is 30 miles away in storage so I can't walk out and look at it. If you have trouble, let me know and I will look next time I'm up there.take careWard

Remove and replace

I pull the outside teak from our '77 h27 each winter to take the wood home for refinishing or touch-up. To keep the boat secure, I have made cheap pine replacements that take the weather, and keep the boat closed up.I learned this trick from a friend with an h34.DavidLady Lillie

I removed mine and regretted it.

I did exactly as has been discussed. I removed the teak around the entryway and the wood strips on the plexite top. Halfway through the refinishing job, I leaned my elbow on the plexiglass sliding top. POP - a real nice crack on the port corner. I super glued it, then after refinishing the wood, put it all back together. The top slides fine and except for the cracked plexiglass, everything is fine. But the super glue did not last through the summer and now I have a leak into the boat when it rains heavily. Next time I will leave the wood on the boat. Meanwhile I need to find a sorce for the plexiglass top. Good luck.Bill Leathen

I removed and refinished twice

Take off the teak strip on the inside of the companionway. Underneath are the srews that hold the outside trim. When I put it back in place, I used some silicone sealant between the trim and the glass. If you strip out the screw holes, fill with JB weld. Re-drill a pilot hole and your back in business. I removed all the teak off the boat twice.
