Removing stanchions

My survey revealed some deck moisture problems, the suggested solution to which was to remove the deck fittings in the problem areas and let the area dry out over the winter. Anybody got any suggestions how to remove the stanchions, which are practically impossible to get at? Or, failing that, any alternative suggestions, such as how to seal fittings to prevent moisture problems getting worse? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not so hard to re-bed

Two people would be advisable, unless you have long arms. One topside with a phillips head driver, and one below with a ratchet and deep socket. An air ratchet works great. Be careful of the "VENT STANTIONS" and remove the hoses only if you plan to completely remove the stantions from the boat. You should have enough extra hose to pull the stantion up enough to clean and re-bed. After the stantions are removed you can lay them on their sides still attached to the life lines. Clean off all of the old bedding, and wipe with alcohol to clean the surface completely. Re-bed with 4200. Make a good bead around all the holes. Tighten the bolts evenly so that the stantion beds evenly. Wait and trim the excess 4200 when it sets up. Did all of mine with my 11 year old son in about 2 hours. Life is better with the water on the OUTSIDE of the boat. Good luck.
