removing spreaders

I would like to remove my spreaders to check if the pin that runs throught the mast is damaged...not as easy as it seems..must be a buld up of corrosion or something..I don't want to damage them by reefing on them...has anyone ever done this before?? thank you

Spreader removal

I removed the spreaders on my 1979 22 footer. The spreaders are fitted over a sleeve that is rivited to the mast. The spreaders are through-bolted at the sleave by the mast and removing the bolt usually gets them removed quickly.Are yours rivited to the sleeve? If so, drill them out then bore out the old rivets and replace them with stainless fasteners.Good luck,Former O'day Owner
