Seacrched the archives but to no avail? Anyone have a good technique for removing spider crap stains on fiberglass? I've tried bleach, ON OFF, hull cleaner, etc.. Next step is a side grinder or sandblasting! Any suggestions?

AHHH dont sandblast

Gel coat will scream for mercy. Try something like a compound or FSR which is great for stains. Use a buffer/compounder and an abrasive compound approach next. Have you tried a pressure washer?? Ix-nay on the blasting unless you really want some work.

Never Bleach

Never use bleach, it will eventually yellow your Gel Coat. We successfully use a cheap plastic toilet bowl brush and elbow grease. Always does the job. A good deck cleaner that "chelates" will work well. Let it sit for 2 minutes. Menards has a spray on, all natural "Cobweb Preventer" spray, that drives out spiders. You can put it on your canvas, it is ok for that. Put it on your lines especially at knots, coils etc. It doesn't last for more than about a week if it rains. Just don't get it in your eyes.

black streak remover

From WM works well on the first 4 layer or so . spray on and wait 3 minutes or so, then scrubb, repeat, repeat, ect. once your down to the residual stain, its buff and compound. No shortcuts for the wicked beasts. Pray for Wind, Lugeman

I was just kidding about the sandblasting!

Local compounding has done the best job so far. The hull cleaner ON/OFF removed most of the poop stain but still left the shadow. I routinely spray the boat about every 2 weeks but once the bast@*ds climb the mast they are tough to get at. Then they grow big and drop the "bombs" on deck. I can now spray the first set of spreaders by taping the can to the boat pole and rigging the spray nozzle with a string. They die pretty quick and hit the deck with a thump. One more reason I miss salt water, far fewer spiders!

Good Thread - spent all day Saturday cleaning up

spider droppings. Went on vacation, had a grandchild and spent a week at a trade show. Three weeks off the boat and the spiders went nuts. We tried several different products and nothing seemed to work particularly well. Elbow grease is the best cure so far. We don't seem to get many spiders if we are on the boat every couple of days. It's only when we are distracted with life that they gain a foothold. Good luck to everyone fighting this fight. If anyone comes up with a miracle cure for tiny green spots under the dodger and bimini, I would love to hear about it. The power washer makes short work of the bird droppings but the spiders must poop acid.

Spiders- I nuke them with Demon pesticide

I have used Demon, a pesticide geared for spiders since 1999 on my boat dock. It wipes them out for a couple of months. I buy it at a swimming pool supply house. I try not to get it in the water. I apply it using a pump up sprayer. As soon as it is applied day or night , the spiders run and die.

spray

I spray for spiders too using Ortho Home Defense Max. I spray the bottom side of my sail and Bimini covers. This stuff doesn't stain and takes away a spider hiding spot. I also spray under the hull to deck joint, in the cubbies, in the lockers, and on the dock lines while being careful not to over spray into the water. This doesn't eliminate spiders but it does very drastically reduce the number of spiders and where they shit which isn't all over the deck any more.

spider crap

Try a small amount of bug and tar cleaner or goof-off. You can find either at wal-mart or a home improvement center.

Spray Away

Works well for me. Wet the boat then spray on and let it sit for a minute or so then scrub with soft bristle brush.
