Removing silver paint trim from H33 fixed ports

I noticed on what I thought was the metal trim on the fixed ports[lexon, acrilic?] were some black streaks. turned out the streaks were the ports themselves, the "metal " was just painted all arount the port and it's wearing through. How do you take it off without days of rubbing out?
I'm afraid to try stripper as I don't know what it will do to the port material.
My other choice is to mask it and try to repaint, that will be a real SOB, though
HELP!!

One option may be to remove the ports and have them powder coated. They are probably aluminum and will readily accept powder coating.

The key is removing the port without damaging it.

Steve I guess I was not clear, the plastic lens, if that is the right term has been painted around the edges, about 1" wide, and the fake metal paint is coming off. I'm wondering should i attempt to repaint, or to somehow get the paint off.
Sorry to confuse.

Paul:

Sorry for the mis-understanding. I photo would help.
I got to Hunter CS "AL Dukes", the paint is: SEM Bumpercoater#39283, their tech man said clean with "sand no more" or simular, rough up with #400 paper mask off and spray. The window material itsself is acrylic. i was told to remove at my own risk, so I guess I'll repaint.

Final solution to repainting

I went out and bought the paint but after talking to the sales staff, i decided to remove the old paint. It worked!
Hear's how get a 1/4 in. or larger drill [wired, not battery, you'll run out of juice otherwise] get a buffing pad that fits the drill, get one tube of red jewlers rouge, and 1 tube of white tripole(?). The red stuff buffs it right off and the white really cleans the entire port. Two of the ports took me less than an hour and that included masking off the gelcoat.
Ihave enough left over to remove the scratches on all of my plastic windows and the entry panels. I think that my total costs at Home depot were $60 which included the cheapest drill, an extension cord and grount fault safty plug:dance:
