Anyone have a suggestion for removing dried Sikkens Cetol from the gel coat? I have tried mineral spirits / paint thinner with not much luck. Thanks in advance.

What's a sikken?

What the heck is a sikken from fiberglass?

Try this...

first try acetone. (I don't think it will work very well), next step would be to use a paint remover that is safe to use on fiberglass. That stuff is VERY hard to remove. I guess that's why it lasts so long.

Try Goof Off

It removes crayon, ink, paint. Someone else recommended it awhile back. Also I think Jim Willis recommends Island Girl Pink undiluted. Haven't tried it yet, but I have some spots on the deck that could use it. Tom

ISLAND GIRL PINK

I have a friend who dropped a quart of sikken on his cockpit. I found out about it after it had cured about a week. We tried IG pink, without much hope. After a bit of rubbing with a paper towel it just started to wipe off. It was really strange. At first it didn’t do anything, but once it got going the results were great. He ordered a complete kit the next day.

Removing Cetol from Ffiberglass

To start, you should always mask the area to be painted. But if Cetol gets on the fiberglass, try removing it with acetone. This normally works for me. If the Cetol is not completely removed try buffing the area with a high quality rubbing compound followed by a marine wax.

Use a knife blade.

Cetol is relative soft, and you can scrape the worst of it off easily.
