Hi:
Oxalic acid will remove (or least improve) rust stains from sails without damage. A product I have used and still do is the "Works" shower and tub cleaner available at Dollar Tree for you guessed it -- $1.00. Primary active ingredient is oxalic acid. Just dab on the stains with a brush. Lightening of the stain will occur over several minutes and might take several applications depending on how severe. Here is a link to a picture of the stuff. Also works great to remove tannin stains on the hull.
