Removing Running Rigging/Deck Cover. (H40.5-1995)

My '95 40.5 has a one piece running rigging cover and I need access to the organizers that are underneath it. I was hoping the cover would simply slide out under the traveler, but, no such luck.

How is the traveler held to the cover? I removed the obvious screws and bolts, but it hasn't freed up the traveler.

Can anyone offer advice on to proceed?

thanks

40.5 Hood Removal

There was a lengthy thread on this about a year ago. However, I can't find it in the search. Hang in there a while and someone else may have better luck locating it.

I remember that thread too. On our HV36 there were a couple of inside bolts that went through the seahood. Once you removed them the cover slid right out (but it is a little heavy).

Hi Ed,

I removed it once, Left the traveler attached to the panel, and removed the outboard bolts that are attached to the threaded deck plates. On mine there are 2 threaded bushing by the lines path (both sides), which holds the bolt from the top ( at the traveler), and the other from inside the cabin by the mood light cover. The solar panel wire on mine goes to the cabin on the RH aft end and you can see it from the bathroom ceiling panel. Once big bolts were out (removed both outboard traveler blocks) I lifted the panel and rested it on the dodger without disconnecting the solar panel.

I did use impact tools to loosen the bolts. I forgot to take pictures then 8 yrs ago... The second HIN number is there.

Good luck..

Thanks!

I did see a prior thread on the two-piece versus the one piece cover; But when it came down to removing the one piece cover, it left off at "it's hard"

The two big bolts/threaded bushings that are about 8 inches from the ends of the traveler came out with a hand screwdriver. I suspect some glue (or something that after 20 years has become glue) may have been used as well. I'll try it over the weekend and report back.

Happy Sailing.

There were two more bolts under each of the pulley blocks, bringing the total to 6 bolts. Once these bolts were out, removing the cover was a piece of cake. Note, some of the bolts used a "square drive" which meant finding another tool.

Thank you all!
