My Hunter 28.5 has stripes located on both the hull (just beneath the toe rail) and on both sides of the cabin. The hull stripes are in pretty good condition, but the stripes on the cabin have become faded. Have any of you sister ship owners removed and replaced these stripes? The stripes appear to be stick-ons, are two-tones of blue and about two inches wide. Please tell me how you changed them and what materials you used in the process. Thanks.

Stripes

If you search the archives you should find some discussion of using a rubber eraser wheel that goes on a drill. Sounded like it worked well. I couldn't find one, so I ended up using a thin blade scraper. The best one found was one made for a cleaning a grill (wire brush/scraper combination). I didn't use the brush part. It also took about 3 of these to make it through all the cabin stripes since after a while they have been flexed too much. (The thin blade helps to put a little more pressure on a small area without gouging the gelcoat.) This method left behind some adhesive residue which I cut with a citrus cleaner (a thick blade scraper helped here). After I took the stripes off, I thought I might go without them or paint new ones on. At this point, I'm thinking about having a person that does auto detailing put on some stipes. I bought a new truck a few months ago and the dealer threw in some simple pinstriping to close the deal. A lady showed up a couple of days later with a van full of pinstripe materials and was done inside 15 minutes at a cost to the dealer of about $25.

Nick: Check out the Photo Forum. I did this and it was a breeze. There is picture of the lable in the posting. There is a tool place on the web that sells these, but you should be able to find them at an automotive paint store. If you cannot find one let me know.

Easy to do with a hair dryer

I have removed and replaced tape stripes several times on my 80H27. The easist way is to work with a hair dryer. Start at an end with the dryer to lift an edge. Go slowly. Lead with the dryer while gently lifting the tape. It works great.

Stripes from Hunter

Hi, I replaced all the stripes om our H34 two years ago, did the heat gun routine, works well if you heat them slowly,on low heat, if your fingers get hot, back off! Follow with a dull putty knife, wash with a solvent, put new ones on. I ordered new stripes from hunter, they applied easily and looked great. John K

Eraser Wheel

I used the "Eraser Wheel" to remove the cabin stripes on our 28.5. Attaches to a drill and basically "erases" the stripes-- Easy and quick. Follow up by wiping with acetone. I called Hunter only to find they dont make the replacement stripes for the 28.5 anymore. I designed some new ones (going to three stripes) and have a shop making them now. I can find the address for the eraser wheel if you need it (bought it over the internet--cost less than $10). Let me know-
