removing peeling painted lettering from fiberglass transom

I'm mid project and am having a time at getting the illegible painted on name removed from my transom. I soaked the numbering good for 2 hrs and nearly removed all of the remnants. I still have 10% of the removal infront of me. Should I consider wet sanding with 200 grit or finer paper?

Soaked with what? Did you try the oven cleaner method? Seems to work for many and is unlikely to hurt your gelcoat if solvents aren't working out for you.

Easy Off for painted names...blow dryer for vinyl

Easy Off, a metal spatula, bronze wool, and rubber gloves are the tried and true tools to remove painted names. May take more than one application, but it works. Spray only one or two letters at a time...wait about 5 minutes...scrape with spatula. Spray again...wait a few minutes...scrub with bronze wool. Wash well with detergent and water.

Use a blow dryer to soften adhesive on vinyl letters/numbers...peel off. To sremove adhesive residue, spray with WD-40...wait a few minutes...scrub with bronze wool...Wash well with detergent and water.
