The Catalina 30 that I recently purchased has its name painted in large letters on both sides of the hull. How can I remove this without damaging the hull? I don't know exactly what kind of paint was used to paint the name.
Mike...try this, worked for me. Start with something gentle, like denatured alcohol. Then, if needed, goto acetone. Next, (seriously), EZ-Off Oven cleaner. Worked for me. Do damage. Be sure to clean up with the denatured alcohol. Good luck. Bob.
Mike: Just did this on the transom last fall. Used Easy-Off oven cleaner. This was recommended by everyone that I spoke to, including the people that were going to repaint the name. I put on a coat and let it sit for 10-15 mins. (depends on the temp). Then used a deck brush and scrubbed it. Rinsed the area with fresh water and repeated. Got 99% of the paint off with two applications.
