Removing Paint from PVC Pipe.

I have to try to remove the original specifications numbers that are painted (printed?)
on common PVC pipe.
Why? Well, 30 years ago I bought the proprietary PVC turn buckle boots available at any chandlery.
When the yard crew removed the mast last week, they dropped one of the boots in the drink. Can't be retrieved.
That style of boot is no longer sold.
So, if I can remove the markings from the Lowes PVC pipe I bought, I'm home free for a
total cost of $12.00.
Yeah, I know I could just paint the pipe, but how long would that last?

Any Ideas?
Thanks, G.

paint thinner. The problem is using solvents will likely leave a faded image of the lettering from the ink/solvent combination penetrating the PVC. Krylon makes spray paints that work on PVC without the need for primer, and will cover that nicely.

Paint thinner. Just to make sure it works, I went down to my workshop and used a paper towel with some paint thinner and cleaned up the print on a piece of pipe with print on it. Clean as a whistle

Bet plain old gasoline would work as well

probably whatever can of anything flammable that is sitting on your workbench would do it.

Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding. We have a winner.
Kappy Kaplan, Come on Down.
You're the winner of the "Solution Of The Week" Award.

Acetone removed all but a slight tinge of red on the PVC.
A couple of months in the Florida sun will eliminate that.
And, after a short soak in fresh water, no blush or loss of shine

Thank you all for the suggestions. May your spring projects go as smoothly.
G.
