I have a 2003 Hunter 426 DS with in-mast furling. The outhaul car moves reasonably freely when unloaded, but develops considerable friction when the sail puts a sideways load on it. I'd like to remove the car so I can inspect the rollers/wheels and track.
There is a small stop/keeper in the track just forward of the car. I removed the two Allen screws that hold it in place, and the stop then slides freely forward until it reaches the gooseneck/end fitting. At that point it won't come out. I can't see or feel anything obstructing it.
The gooseneck fitting appears to be riveted to the boom, so dismantling that would be a major undertaking and doesn't look like the intended servicing procedure.
My main question is: Does this outhaul car come out through the forward or aft end of the boom?
If it comes out forward, is there some trick to getting the stop past the gooseneck? If it comes out aft, does the aft boom end fitting have to be removed?
I'd particularly appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually removed one of these cars from a Seldén boom on a Hunter 426/44DS or similar Hunter.
