Gel cote has been treated with a Starbrite product .."Instant Glass Cote". I believe this is a clear cote type product. It has weathered off in spots and either has to removed or retreated. Anyone have any experience with that? lpotente@ec.rr.com

If it's like NewGlass, Vertglas and other similar

It's an acrylic coating. About the only thing that will remove it is acrylic floor finish remover...the Ace Hardware brand seems to work the best. It was the only thing that would remove New Glass from my hull.

remover

The active ingredient in most acrylic floor finish removers is ammonia, so you can give that a try, and it's alot cheaper.

I tried straight ammonia on NewGlass...didn't work

I used Lacquer Thinner

I used thinner, when the ammonia and the New Glass removers did not work. If you feel lacquer thinner is too drastic, possibly an enamel thinner? I had nothing to loose, my hull was a mess, I washed the New Glass off, using lots of paper towels, then used a heavy duty buffer with the orange compound, white compound, then two coats of Collonite brand Fleet wax. I now put one coat of wax on the hull in Fall, and another in spring, It actually shines.

Acrylic Removal

It's great stuff till you have to remove it. My Vertglas yellowed in 2-3 years. I have use almost every brand of that stuff on the market. Poliglow has the best remover but I'm not sure what's in it. I tried the industrial acrylic floor polish stripped with very limited success. Since my last Hunter had very thick gelcoat I used #400 and #600 wet sandpaper mostly by hand. Glad I'm not you
