The previous owner of my boat smeared silicone on the hull and underside of the toe rail. Now I want to remove it. I've scraped most of it off, but there's some that clings to the hull. Is there anything that will disolve it? thanks

I have had success with GooGone. Doesn't completely dissolve it, but makes it easier to scrape off. Let it soak for awhile. I have not tried rebedding anything after removal. Also works on masking tape residue and carpet glue residue.

Bought salavaged 20 oday minus boom. Length for 1975 is 8ft 6 in need width @ height. Since only 4000 made will have to make one/have not seen used one for sale yet.Maybe a 20 oday owner will answer.

Laquer Thinner
works the best for me, even better than Acetone. You will also find laquer thinner works good for cleaning vinyl (fenders and rubrails). It is much less harsh than acetone. Michael

Use Island Girl Pink (or any of the cleaners). It works on silicone sikaflex, 5200, dried paint etc even on carpet and upholstery.Also uncured two part paint, fiberglass or expoxy resins etc. Does this without damage to vinyl and other plastics, carpet, fabric etc. I am shortly going to put a movie on this with the other movies in the chandlery. We used to offer a $100.00 pirze at boat shows for anything that could be more versatile! Every year the prize money (that nobody claimed) was sent to a South Seas Medical Charity. It's available on this site at the Chandlery. For small jobs it is not really worth buying JUST for this but those other removers are basically pretty expensive for just one purpose. Goo Gone is pretty much based on d-limonene (which can dissolve polystyrene) while Goofoff is essentially repackaged toluene/Xylene. 3M adhesive remover is probably similar to "Prep Sol" , concoction of solvents (ncluding the aromatics such as Xylene) that is used to remove wax and silicone from cars, prior to painting. This stuff is also really good for removing tape residue and silicone adhesive - Have restored and painted several classic cars! Thanks ALW
