I just roll barrier coat and bottom paint. I used to not care about that 100th of a knot,

"( but now I understand that an unsmooth surface could be faster (like shark skin):D. )"

Hi Merlinuxo,
( like shark skin ), I don't understand unless there is a reliable research report on this. The shark has a lot more power to get through the water, he's not concerned about " his unsmooth skin"! Personally I like a smooth bottom :) :naughty: . If my O'day 22 goes thru the water at 6 or 7 mph I'll be :) with a smoothie ....

Naw Dave, I'm just pretending there was a reason for rolling the barrier and bottom paint other than not caring if it were smooth. :)

Merlinuxo, Nice easy going spirit there, keeps modern day stress at bay;) . On sunday 26th I painted, rather, rolled and tipped on the first coat of Petit Unepoxy, used a small dia 6 inch roller and a 3 inch medium grade Lowe's brush, looks quit smooth to me :snooty: . It appears to me the smaller dia roller puts on less paint and the tipping drys smoother, than 6 years ago when I used a larger dia dime-store, heavier nap, ( boy don't that date me!) and the tipping dried with lots of rough streaks. I didn't get any comments on type and size roller and brush, I would still like to hear some comments and experiences.

Hi Dave,
I painted my hull and deck but that hardly makes me any kind of expert. I did mine when it was too hot and there was a breeze, both no-nos. Doesn't give paint enough time to flow before it's too dry to.
I was advised by a guy that did a very nice job on his boat (better than my outcome) to use a foam mini roller (found in the box stores) and a natural fiber, 4" flat ended brush (which I found cheap at Harbour Frieght).

cleaned my boat bottom by sanding and a final acetone wipe and painted with interlux 2 part epoxy...its worked great and on my fourth year.
For a touch up when needed i just will give an acetone wipe and a recoat , for clarification though its fresh water that the boat frolics in..
