I need to find something to remove the old name and numbers (and registration sticker) without damaging anything. A fellow at the marina suggested a hairdryer to make the vinyl come off easier...so far no luck. Any thoughts?

Not always easy.

Lori: If the vinyl is cooked on, the hair drier does not work very well. You may want to get some type of solvent to loosen up the vinyl before you try it again. If you want to try another method you can try the 'Eraser'. It is a gum rubber wheel that attaches to a drill. You just buff the vinyl off the gel coat. They use this device on pin stripes on automobiles. If you look in the Photo Forum I did a photo story on Stripe Removal.

Removal works

the best with oven cleaner. The name application person in our area uses nothing else.
