We have received several phone calls from owners who read Mark Ploch's advice on the guest forum. Thanks to Mark Ploch for recommending us to boat owners who have a problem with removing mildew and algae stains from sails. CS-530 is a new product specifically designed for these problems, including removing mildew stains from laminate sails. It is sold commercially to sail lofts and sail cleaning companies throughout the U.S. and abroad by our distributor, Challenge Sailcloth. For owners who wish to find out more about CS-530, we suggest you contact your local sailmaker (who can contact Challenge if necessary). We also hope to have a web site up shortly. Challenge is at 1-800-962-4499. For technical questions, please feel to call us at Marine Materials Development 781-639-5400 (wanstar@juno.com).

Very interesting.

I'll be calling you for more information. My 2 year old laminate roller-furled genoa developed a mildew problem. The manufacturer disclaimed responsibility at first, and there were many telephone calls and e-mails exchanged. They finally cleaned the sails gratis, but I am afraid the mildew will rear it's ugly head again. The one suggestion I can give to other owners of laminate sails is to make sure they are perfectly dry before furling them. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty

Approved by? Samples?

Sounds like a good sales pitch; however, I have a couple questions for Mr Cohen: 1) What sail cloth manufacturers have approved this? North, Bainbridge? Note that manufacturers of Lexan, Plexiglass, etc. test and approve certain cleaners for use on their prodcuts. 2) Given that some major sail cloth manufacturers have approved this, does the company offer any free test samples? I'd be interested in testing it on one of my old sails.
