I'm a new owner of a 1978 Hunter. I want to remove the galley countertop and replace it because it is badly delaminated from moisture from water setting in the icebox. Does anyone know the easiest way to remove the countertop?

I replaced all the laminate counter tops in my boat and it was well worth the time and money. First I removed the actual counter tops. Then I stood them on edge and used a metal scrapper and lots of acetone to seperate and remove the old laminate sheets. Sanded and vacumed. Then used contact cement and new laminate bought in sheets from Lowes. I used a router bought from harbor Freight with laminate cutting bit to do the edges. Did a few small pieces for practice but got good enough to do some really difficult cuts pretty quick. Let dry then re-installed on boat. Went from an almond color to bright white and it cleans up with a rag. I even put some laminate in parts of the cabin where it wasnt't before just because I had some left. It is so durable that it just doesn't mark up like paint or paneling does.

How is the countertop connected to the cabinet/hull? Are there screws that hold it in or is it glued? Do I need to cut it into pieces? What would be the best way to remove it?

Look under the countertop. You should see wood strips screwed to the top of most of the vertical panels of the cabinet. These strips are then screwed to the 3/4" plywood countertop with bronze wood screws. Remove all these screws. I doubt it is glued too. Mine wasn't.
