Removing and replacing portlights

I am removing and replacing portlights from a 1976 25 ' O'day. I removed the screws and the innermost trim from the inside, which came off easily. Now I'm not sure what should release next. Does anyone have experience removing the casing and seals. I don't want to force something unnecessarily and tearing it up.

Cut the seal

Take a utility or sharp putty knife and from the outside carefully cut the sealant/adhesive that is holding the window on. Then it should come right out. When reattaching the window be sure to use a sealant that's compatible with plastic. I used a clear silicon sealant about 10 years ago and they are still fine.

Agree with Brad

I replaced all mine last year, the ports are held in with sealant, use an Xacto or a razor blade to cut it to allow the ports to come out. You will then have to clean the surfaces prior to reapplying the ports. Good Luck.

Oops - forgot to mention!

I forgot to mention to be careful if you intend to reuse the ports. The aged plastic on mine were brittle and occasionally a piece would crack off, since I was replacing everything, it did not matter to me. But if you wish to reuse them go easy.

Thanks for the reply -You mentioned you replaced the portlights due to brittleness. Where did you locate replacements? Also, I was able to get the portlights to drop out, which was good but how do you remove the plexiglass from the framing? Possibly caulk is holding the spacer up against the plexiglass or the seal on the outside should open but its now too brittle to do so. Additional thoughts would be appreciated.
