I have a 1984 ODay 28 with a non-functioning Ray Marine auto-pilot of the same vintage. I want to remove it as it fights me sometime when I'm steering the boat. Any advice you can give on removing this without causing an electrical issue would be appreciated

Can't you just disconnect it mechanically from the steering quadrant or wheel pilot... and turn off the power. Look under the deck.

When I removed my Autohelm 3K (from my 83 Catalina) it was very straight forward. Remove the motor bracket from the Edson pillar, remove the pulley from the wheel, clip the wires on the power connector and remove all the way back to the electrical panel. I left the power connector and mounting bracket for controls for when I feel up to doing gel coat. Installing the Raymarine EV1 - linear drive AP took a little longer ;)
