I have removed old boat name with heat and still have some adhesive residue. Is the anything i can use to remove this that is NOT acetone. I hate the stuff and would like to avoid using it.

Adhesive removal

Try using WD-40 on a very small area and working it in with a soft cotton cloth. I had a similar problem changing my boat's name and wound up using 600 wet and dry sand paper, then I polished it out with polishing compound.

stains

I would think that wd40 would stain, i have a white hull. Any thoughts and thank you for reply!

WD40 is a solvent

It may seem like a lubricant but technically, it is a solvent and will, eventually dissapate. If you're concerned, test on a small inconspicuous spot near the water line. But it really is great at removing adhesive. LaDonna

Goo Gone

I recently re-lettered my transom. It took a few hours to carefully peel off the old vinyl lettering. The remaining residue was removed with a product called Goo-Gone (spelling?). It took several applications, but it softened and removed all the left over adhesive. Good luck! Randy

Why not Acetone?

I removed the old lettering on my boat last spring and tried goo-gone. It worked, but it was a lot of work. Acetone works much better, and I understand that it is much harsher on the finish, but as long as you rewax the portions of the hull not covered by the vinyl, I would think it is the most time effective/efficient. I may be naive about the potential damage, but as long as you use it in a sensible way, it seems to be the most efficient. Chris D
