removing a north sail roller furling

I have a 1984 34 hunter. I have the mast off and redoing the standing rigging. So far so good but for some reason I can’t get the front stay to slide out of the extrusion. I have the drum off and I cut the top swag off but it will only slide about foot in either direction. What am I missing. Thank you.. It is a North Sail roller furling.

hi joe,

i had a 84 hunter 34 with roller furler. mine had a north sails sticker on the drum but it was actually a harken roller furler. i dont remember the series but here is a link for the mark III manual.

Joe, if it is a Harken, It is probably an old one.. Here is what I have on the old Unit 1 ..

Thanks everyone for the info. The sailboat gods were good to me today. Last night I screwed around for an hour trying to remove the stay an it kept stopping when I pulled it only a foot. So this A.M. went to the boat yard grabbed lower end and pulled and for some reason it pulled out. It had to be the sailboat gods.LOL
