Removing a Holding Tank

I have looked at the Acu-Gage product and like what I see. My question is, to install the product I must remove the tanks from the boat to install the tape sensors on the tanks. The water tanks will not be a problem because they are completely empty, but what do I do about the holding tank? I had it pump before we hailed, but I just know there is more in the bottom of the tank. Is there some way not to make a big mess getting the tank out? Thanks Rich

Avoiding mess.

After flushing and pumping out completely several times (tip the nearly-empty tank towards the pump on the last pump-out to get as much liquid as possible out, I capped off all open fittings with appropriately-sized corks (Secured with duct tape) before removing the tank. What little "mess" was left stayed inside the tank when I tipped it to remove it.

Easy to solve...

Drop by your local hardware store and pick up a couple of 1.5" PVC threaded plugs...tip the tank UP before you disconnect the pumpout hose...after you disconnect the hose, screw in the plug... Do it in reverse to put it back.
